The Oklahoma Blood Institute said it is facing the worst blood shortage in nearly 30 years and they're in desperate need of donors.
The CEO of the Oklahoma Blood Institute said the supply is so short right now that some hospitals across the country might have to cancel some elective surgeries.
This is an emergency, and they need more donors as they get closer and closer to the Fourth of July, OBI said.
According to their numbers, the OBI needs about 1,200 donors on weekdays to keep the blood supply going.
At 10 a.m. Tuesday, the OBI will emphasize the desperate need for blood especially for trauma victims, like 6-year-old Roxie Myers whose foot was partially severed earlier this year after a lawnmowing accident.
The Oklahoma Blood Institute provides more than 90% of blood to our state's 160 hospitals and medical facilities.
