A Bixby man has been in the hospital for more than a month battling COVID-19, and his wife said at one point, doctors didn't expect him to make it.

She said she wants to encourage people to still take the virus seriously.

Cortney Price said her husband had been on a ventilator for 18 days. While he's starting to get better, she said this has been such a hard time for their family.

Josh Price first tested positive for COVID-19 on May 18. Cortney said he first felt like he had a cold, but then he was struggling to breathe and ended up being admitted to the hospital.

"His lungs continued to look worse each day they did an x-ray," she said.

Cortney said Josh is now off the ventilator, but there's still a long road ahead.

"He can't walk, he can't use his arms, he can't use his legs, he can't use the bathroom he can't do anything of those things on his own," Cortney said.

Cortney said she never expected this to happen to her husband because he is 34 and healthy. She said they hadn't been vaccinated but said they don't go out much and didn't think it would be like this.

"We thought we would be okay, and I wish we would have taken the time to get vaccinated, my outlook on this has completely changed," she said.

Cortney said while this has been a tough road for her family, she has felt support from so many people. She is thankful her husband is going to be okay.

"It's prayer, it is the only explanation, so many have lost their lives to this, I just feel so fortunate that he's getting a second chance," she said.

Cortney said she wants to continue to ask people to pray for her family.
