Tulsa Police arrested a man they say stole a military truck and then wouldn't come out of it when officers found him.

Police said Philip Heygi stole a privately-owned military truck on Sunday and then refused to get out of it after parking on the side of I-244.

Officer Danny Bean said it all started hours before, when a person house sitting near Admiral and 177th East Avenue woke up to a burglary at the home. Missing was the homeowner's M35 Military Cargo Truck.

"They called the actual owner, the victim, who was on his way back home from out of town stated that the truck didn't have keys, that you got to know how to do it,” said Bean. “There's a sequence to go through it. So, you either have done it before or you have military training."

Meanwhile, as detectives investigated the burglary, officers in another part of town got an interesting call. Police said a woman called 911 to report her boyfriend had shown up to her house in a military vehicle after an all-night binge on meth.

"In between all that, we couldn't find him,” said Bean. “Our reporting officers lucky enough were going to drive to his last known address. As they were driving, they saw the vehicle parked on the side of the road."

Bean said there, they found Heygi who refused to come out, even after a K-9 was sent in to get him. Officers eventually used pepper balls and he was taken to the hospital for an unrelated medical condition.

Heygi is still in the hospital but will be facing first-degree burglary charges, larceny of automobile, possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.
