Severe storms moved into the Oklahoma City metro area Thursday night bringing hail to the north side from Edmond to Guthrie and flooding to the central and south sides of the metro.

A tornado watch was extended until 9 p.m. for many counties in the state including ones in the Oklahoma City metro.

News 9 had team coverage as motorists in OKC, Edmond and Norman navigated through flooded roads.

An Edmond driver told News 9’s Clayton Cummins water rose quickly at the intersection of 15th Street and Kelley Avenue.

2:30 p.m. Update: A first round of severe storms moved across west-central and north-central Oklahoma Thursday afternoon with a second round of storms expected later in the afternoon, according to Chief Meteorologist David Payne.

12 p.m. Update: A tornado watch has been issued for most almost all of the northern and central counties in Oklahoma. The watch is set to expire at 7 p.m. Thursday.

10:40 a.m. ORIGINAL: Isolated storms are expected to develop before noon on Thursday in the north and west. These storms will strengthen into the early afternoon and push to the east.

They will likely be severe with hail, and wind and will also have a low threat for tornadoes. They should arrive in the Oklahoma City metro between noon and 2 p.m. They will continue to the east.

Round two of storms will fire along the cold front late Thursday afternoon. They will begin in northwest Oklahoma and will form into a line. This line will push to the south through the afternoon and evening.

Still in question is how unstable the area will be after round one moves through.

Latest data still has this round producing very large hail, damaging winds, and will have a low tornado threat.

Due to both rounds of heavy storms, flash flooding is a big concern today as well.
