This month, News 9 shared a of a woman with a decades-old felony charge over a movie rental that was never returned.

It turns out the VHS scandal is not as unique as one would think.

An Edmond man and big-time golf fanatic has a very similar story, but his overdue VHS tape took him behind bars.

"After all of these years, to be honest with you, it's a funny story," said Jay Doudican.

Two decades ago, Jay moved to Dallas after college.

But a little piece of entertainment kept him tied to Oklahoma with Doudican founding out the hard way.

"I had a headlight out in my jeep, and I got pulled over," said Doudican. "She says, 'Mr. Doudican, can you please put your hands behind your back? You are arrested for embezzlement of rented property.'"

From there, Doudican was booked into a Texas jail. Facing charges of embezzlement of rented property and he had no idea it was all over a rented VHS tape.

"For a small-town person like myself, it was pretty scary," said Doudican. "At this point, my level went from here to here, and I am asking people how I get out."

Jay was released and allowed to travel back to Cleveland County, where the charge originated from a local video store.

"It turns out someone, probably one of my roommates, had rented a video cassette under my name, and didn't return it," said Doudican.

A $150 fine later, the charges were cleared. Doudican should probably forward that bill to his old roommate.

Doudican's charges were dismissed.
