Vandals are accused of causing an estimated ten thousand dollars’ worth of damage at a Habitat for Humanity home in Oklahoma City.

The damage was discovered Wednesday evening near Northwest 77th Street and Council Road by the future homeowners, delaying their dreams of home ownership by at least a month.

“We think it was a group of kids, we’re not sure. We haven’t been able to get any information from the neighbors about it,” said Ann Felton, CEO of Central Oklahoma’s Habitat for Humanity.

Felton said the vandals took the sprayer from the kitchen sink and drenched the carpet in the living room.

“They kicked in almost every door. They saturated the carpet with water from the kitchen, so the carpet has to be replaced,” said Felton.

The suspects also kicked holes in the walls, covered the walls with caulk and broke light fixtures.

The homeowners were about a week away from closing on the property.

“So, they’ll have to stay in their current rental for about another month. Maybe even longer, because it’s taking us so long to get things and everything has tripled in price lately. So, that’s another issue that we have had,” said Felton.

Felton is hopeful the future homeowners can keep their current accommodations until the work is done. However, in a lot of cases that’s not an option.

Police did get some evidence from the home, but said the investigation is ongoing.
