Stroud Man Arrested, Accused Of Throwing Knife At Dog Multiple Times; Told Police It Was ‘A Nuisance’

A Stroud man was arrested after police said he threw a knife at a stray dog multiple times.

John Clark, 49, was arrested shortly following the May 3 incident.

Residents nearby called police after witnessing Clark throw the knife.

“The dog is still on scene, Mr. Clark is still on scene,” Stroud Police Chief Clint Gaylord said. “The officer that arrived spoke with Clark.

The investigation didn’t take long.

According to court records, Clark admitted to police he threw the knife because the dog was “being a nuisance.”

“The officer observed a gash below the eye on the dog, also later observed that the dog had a fresh wound to the gentile area as well,” Gaylord said.  

Police believe the knife Clark was using was found on his waist.

The dog involved was a stray.

“Obviously if it was at a far distance, he is a very good aim so I would think that it would have to be at a fairly close proximity when the knife was thrown,” Gaylord said. “It was obviously thrown more than once because there were two separate wounds.”

Nearly two weeks later, the dog has been adopted. Wounds it had sustained have all but healed.

Police remind the public that animal control exists to take care of problem animals.

“We have multiple witnesses who saw the incident and at no time was the dog a threat to Mr. Clark and he had no reason to create these injuries and cause the pain he did to this animal,” Gaylord said.

Police believe Clark was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Police said Clark had to be dragged to the police cruiser and made physical threats to the officer while being taken to jail.

Clark is out on a $3,000 bond.
