Nick Philbeck is owner of Take Control, a one stop handyman type service. He’s also a veteran and understands firsthand the struggles veterans go through and wanted to do whatever he could do to help.

So, after one year in business, he decided to partner with the John Daly & Major Ed (JDME) Foundation to put on an event.

“We’re gonna have food trucks, beer vendors, dunk tanks, clowns for the kids, race cars, and some live music. Some local guys, we’re gonna have Maddox followed up by the American Sling Band,” Philbeck said.

All this happening from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, with all the proceeds going to benefit the JDME Foundation, a group created to take care of veterans, first responders and their families.

"At the John Daly & Major Ed Heart of a Lion Foundation, we do some incredible things," said Maj. Ed Pulido, founder of the JDME foundation. “We provide our first responders America’s children through St. Jude’s and Boys and Girls Club and our military and their families the services and support what they need to thrive and be successful in this great nation.”

Through this event many veterans will receive some much-needed help.

“We have helped a lot of veterans get taken care of, not only in our community but across the country,” said Pulido. “Whether it’s in health care to suicide prevention, to all of the things related to mental health.”

This is the first year for the event but both men anticipate this becoming an annual event. As veterans, both Philbeck and Pulido have needed these valuable resources, and that is why they are so passionate about this event.
