Here in Oklahoma, kids 12 to 15 years old may be able to book an appointment later this week.
On Wednesday, a federal vaccine advisory committee is expected to issue recommendations for using the two-dose vaccine in 12- to 15-year-olds.
"Now, parents and guardians can rest assured that in making our decision, the agency undertook a rigorous and thorough review of all available scientific data," said Dr. Janet Woodcock, acting FDA commissioner.
That will clear the way for those kids get their first dose.
The FDA said that vaccinating children of all ages will be a crucial part in a return to normalcy.
The state health department said there are about 320,000 12- to 15-year-olds in Oklahoma that fall into this category.
Pfizer's clinical trials showed the vaccine is highly effective in preventing COVID-19 in young people and there were no serious side effect.
The other two vaccines authorized for use in the U.S., Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, are not yet available to minors because studies are still taking place.
