Tulsa police say a man is in custody after a standoff in the parking lot of a bar near 66th and Peoria on Thursday night.

According to police, it all started around 11 p.m. when an officer attempted to pull over a car that had come back as stolen. Police say the car then pulled into a bar near 66th and south Peoria.

Police said that two people were in the car when it was pulled over.

Officers say the driver then told the passenger to get out.

According to police, the passenger told them the driver had a gun and was going to let the police kill him.

The driver refused to get out of the car, so police fired a pepper ball into the car to try and get him out.

After about an hour the driver surrendered and was arrested.

The passenger was questioned and later released.

Police say the car turned out to be stolen in Indiana.

Peoria was closed for several blocks during the standoff but has since reopened.
