A Waynoka mother of two is stuck with $200,000 worth of medical bills after a semitruck crushed her vehicle in an accident.

Pieces of rubber and a broken fence remain along Highway 218 after OHP said a semi ran a stop sign, hitting 29-year-old Olga Romo.

Her car rolled over twice and ended up on the other side of the road.

“Cuando sentí el golpe lo único que pensé fue aquí es donde todo termina ... mis hijos,” said the mother of two.

Translation: “When I felt the hit, the only thing I thought was this is where everything ends…my kids.”

A well-known cook in the area, Olga was on the way to Walmart to get ingredients to make her famous Mexican dishes for clients visiting the nearby state park.

Translation: “I took off my seatbelt with my left hand, when I took it off, I looked around my car and my blood was everywhere, I got out through the sunroof.”

When she arrived at OU Med, she had a head injury and several internal injuries. Doctors finally let her go after putting pins in her hands and stitches on her face.

Translation: “My face, like I said, was really enflamed and it was full of blood.”

With the extent of her injuries, doctors aren’t sure if she will ever cook again but Romo is remaining hopeful as her husband drives her to appointments.

Translation: “After the first visit my fingers were supposed to move but they didn’t move so he said they needed more time. It would be a long time and very difficult to move my hand again.”

The community is putting on a fundraiser to help with bills while she recovers at home with her family.

Translation: “Thank you, God, for allowing me to come home again with my kids who need me so bad.”
