Water levels on the Illinois River near Tahlequah are coming down, after reaching nearly 22 feet Thursday afternoon.

The water level is around 11 feet Friday evening, which is in the minor flood stage. That is still too high for water activities like rafting and kayaking.

The co-owner of one rafting company said they won’t send anyone out to float when the water is this high.

“It’s very dangerous, I would not recommend going out right now. It’s one of those things, if it looks like chocolate milk, you don’t get in it,” Arrowhead Resort co-owner Austin Spears said.

He said he expects the water level to be safe for floating next week.
