After two weeks of testimony, and 5 hours of deliberation a jury sentenced Joseph Alliniece to death for the 2018 murder of Brittani Young.
The state and defense teams gave their closing arguments to jurors Friday morning. The jury began deliberations around 1 p.m.
Joseph Alliniece was found guilty of brutally killing Brittani Young.
The state highlighted the brutality of Young's killing. In 2018, Alliniece reportedly stomped on Young’s head, which killed her.
The attorney listed off each injury Young sustained while holding up both autopsy pictures and the shoe Alliniece wore the day he killed Young. The prosecutor matched the pattern on the sole to bruising shown in the pictures.
He was found guilty on all counts of first-degree murder, kidnapping and robbery.
The defense team acknowledged the brutality of the murder. Alliniece's team also asked the jury for mercy. The attorney told jurors if they don't want to show the defendant mercy show it for his family.
Cleveland County District Attorney Greg Mashburn said the death penalty is reserved for "the worst of the worst, and there he is" as he pointed towards Alliniece.
The jury also sentenced Alliniece to two life sentences for his two kidnapping convictions, and fifteen years in prison for the robbery conviction.
