From yearbook to the band to academic team, Jemay Leow has a full schedule and loves every bit of it.
"I got a lot of different experiences from it," Deer Creek Middle School eighth grader Jemay Leow said.
Like many students, Leow has gone through a whirlwind of a school year.
"It was challenging to settle into a routine and make sure I was guiding myself because there was no one around me to tell me what to do," Leow said.
It’s been an isolated year without much time for interaction with classmates, so Leow has devoted a lot of time to the school’s yearbook.
"You have a lot of requirements for your page, then it's up to you to finish that," Leow said.
But Leow is a true leader taking on the privilege of being its writing editor.
"I do not really edit it,” Leow said. “I mostly guide people into the right direction.”
Leow is also captain of the academic team, taking the club to new heights this school year.
"This is the first year we got to state," Leow said. "It felt more separated because we had two different practices, and I didn't get to see some of my team members until the day of competition.”
Want to know Leow's secret weapon? Believe it or not, it's magazines!
"I like reading National Geographic, and I read Oprah (O Magazine) and I read anything that comes to my house,” Leow said. “I pick up little bits of information that way.”
