The Creek County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after nearly $5,000 worth of equipment was stolen from the Shamrock Volunteer Fire Department.

Shamrock firefighters said their station has been broken into twice in the past two weeks and the equipment that was stolen is impacting their ability to fight fires.

“When the pager goes off, we drop everything we’re doing and we don’t know when we’re gonna come home,” said Shamrock Fire Captain Chris Dodd.

Dodd is an 11-year veteran with the department. He said in the past two weeks, $5,000 worth of equipment was stolen.

“They used a pry bar to jimmy the door open and they came in they stole the wenches, three leaf blowers, paint guns and gas cans,” said Dodd.

Both Dodd and Captain Gary Weaver said these leaf blowers are essential when fighting brush fires, and the winches are desperately needed in case one of their trucks gets stuck.

“The last fire we went out on, we got two trucks stuck and if it wasn’t for the wenches we probably wouldn’t have got the truck out,” said Weaver.

Captain Weaver said currently the department only gets about $6,000 to operate on each year and replacing the equipment really adds up.

“The amount of money we get a year, by the time they steal it it takes all the money we have to operate on,” said Weaver. “It hurts to know that people in the community don’t care enough that it’s a volunteer department to at least not steal the stuff from us because it’s hard enough for us to get it to begin with.”

The Creek County Sheriff’s Office is looking into the break-ins and said they’re working to talk with people who live nearby.

“They’ll go out and try to talk with anybody who may have seen something suspicious or a vehicle around the area at the time of the burglary,” said Creek County Chief Deputy Fred Clark.

These firefighters just hope someone will come forward, so they can continue giving back to the community.

“It hurts to know that somebody would just blatantly take from somebody that gives so much,” said Dodd.

Generous community members from Shamrock have come together to offer a cash reward for information that leads to finding those responsible.
