Kris Morgan knows what rock bottom feels like.

It came when he was medically discharged in 2001 from the U.S. Air Force because of a brain injury.

“I’m not gonna lie, I spent ten years in my bed or my recliner. There was a three year stretch I didn’t even leave my home," Morgan said.

Then three years ago, he started making wooden American flags, branding them Flags 4 Vets Made by a Vet.

It’s therapy for Kris. He’s made more than 900 and donated 550 of them to vets and charities.

“I’m not doing this for money. I’m doing this for my way to give back, I feel like I’m doing service again, I’m back in the military again," Morgan said.

There was still one problem. The OKC neighborhood Kris lives in isn’t safe. Drive-by shootings are routine.

But karma was on Kris’s side.

His friend Major Ed Pulido and golfer John Daly had just started a foundation called Heart of a Lion last year.

Their first major project was to get Kris a new place. Mission accomplished.

The foundation secured a house in Guthrie, and thanks to Seagull Homes, Legacy Steel Buildings, Easley Handyman Services and too many more companies to mention, all repairs and maintenance were done at no cost to Kris.

"It’s good to know that there’s people out there that truly care about you," Morgan said.

“This is going to be a place where he’s going to be able to strive, be successful, and actually participate and support other veterans and their recovery as well," Major Pulido, Heart of a Lion founder and CEO said.

Kris will do that by hosting workshops for his fellow veterans in his new and improved space.

“I’ll teach them how to build these flags, and hopefully it will help them. I’m just going to continue changing lives, like it’s changed mine,” Morgan said.

Kris is moving in next Tuesday, but says he still needs some help with electrical work, concrete, and furniture.

If you’d like to help, you can contact Kris or Heart of a Lion.
