The pandemic took a hit on many industries, especially education. There has been a teacher shortage over the past year, and it has taken a hit on the Oklahoma City Public Schools.
On top of that shortage, the district said they are expecting even more teachers to leave at the end of the school year.
"We anticipate that we will lose approximately 140 of our teachers at the end of this school year; a lot of those are retirements, some for personal reasons,” said Dana Leach, the director of human resources.
They are hosting a virtual career fair on Tuesday to find experienced teachers to join the district.
"Participants will be able to meet with principals,” said Leach. “Talk about openings, the culture of the school, any questions they have and interview for positions right there on the spot online."
