So, you've gotten the COVID-19 vaccine, but what do you do with the white card?

You could get it laminated for free at Staples. Or grab a free donut at Krispy Kreme or 20 free tokens at the Up-Down arcade.

But whatever you do, health officials say it's important to keep it on hand and not just for nostalgia.

"This is a record of you getting the vaccine. You need to hold on to it as long as you can," said Molly Fleming with OCCHD.

At first, you are given the card as a reminder to get a second dose.

With phase four opening vaccine eligibility to all Oklahomans age16 and older, more and more people are card-carrying COVID-free.

"If you lose this card, it slows down the process," said Fleming.

Because that card is the most convenient record of your first dose, you can still get a shot without it but contact your vaccine site first just to make sure.

Fake cards are another issue.

"You can go to Facebook and see pictures of peoples cards with peoples lot numbers, and they are already being forged," said Dr. Dale Bratzler with OU Health.

That lowers the value of the card.

"I don't think the card is going to be terribly meaningful," said Dr. Bratzler.

But for now, the card is all we have to prove we're vaccinated. However, that could change post-pandemic.

"A number of countries will be developing a passport of their immunization data," said Dr. Bratzler.

"The best thing you can do is get an official shot record," said Mendy Spohn with OSDH.

You can find that official record of your shots on the state's immunization information site.
