Investigators said an 11-year-old girl is recovering after Tulsa firefighters rescued her from her burning home near E 66th St. North and N Lewis Ave.

The Turley fire chief said the girl's two brothers did the right things by getting out of the house, staying out, and calling 911.

They also gave firefighters time-saving information to help with the rescue, he said.

Investigators said three children were inside the burning home while their mother was taking other kids to school. Two boys were able to escape, while their sister was still inside.

"I know how that must have been hard knowing that their sister was in there, but they stayed out. And actually very, very calmly told the firefighters the area where his sister was at,” Turley Volunteer Fire Department Chief David Morgan said.

Before Tulsa firefighters got there Chief Morgan said one of the girl's brothers was able to call 911, then go to a neighbor's house for help.

A good reminder, Morgan said, that all parents can go over with their children.

"Make sure your kids know your address and make sure they know the number for 911,” Morgan said.

Once Tulsa firefighters arrived, they went through windows in the house, and rescued the girl.

She is now at St. Francis Children's Hospital, after going to Hillcrest's burn unit, Morgan said.

"Means that you know, she didn't have significant enough burns for them to keep her there,” Morgan said.

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office was called because the children were unsupervised, but determined the kids were old enough to be home alone.

Now the family is working to move forward.

"It broke my heart walking in the kids' room. All of their toys are melted from the heat from the house,” Morgan said.

Firefighters said the Red Cross has been contacted, and Turley firefighters are working to figure out the best way to help get the children some new clothes and toys.

A GoFundMe has been started to help the family recover from the damages. You can find it here.
