The Broken Arrow City Council voted 3-2 to approve a mask resolution in their meeting Tuesday night. The resolution encourages - not requires - residents to wear masks.

This is the third time the council has considered a resolution like this. It would provide more support for businesses who want to require masks. A vote to require masks failed in January.

The council had to take an unplanned recess Tuesday night as tempers flared over the proposed mask resolution.

"One of my primary reasons for moving here was the ability to conduct business freely without a mask,” Garrett Hampton said.

“It's been demonstrated in the medical community that it does help. Our data shows that it makes two and a half to five percent difference,” councilor Johnnie Parks said.
