The Creek County Health Department worked alongside Sapulpa Public Schools to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to hundreds of people at Sapulpa Middle School on Saturday.

Lori Garden, a nurse at Sapulpa Public Schools, said that 150 educators and about 440 others in the community registered for their first dose of the vaccine.

“Teachers from Lone Star, and also from Mannford, came down this direction because it worked out better for them,” Garden said.

Sapulpa Public Schools provided the facility while the Creek County Health Department ran the clinic.

Once people received their vaccine, they waited about 15 minutes to see if they had any allergic reactions.

Tulsa resident Audrey Ellingsworth came out to support her husband, Kevin, who received his first shot.

“We both had COVID already and don’t want to get it again,” Ellingsworth said. “I was off work for seven weeks and it was rough.”

“I heard a lot of people talking about how they are excited to get the vaccine, so they can get back to a more normal life,” Garden said.

Garden said the amount of people that came out Saturday showed that there’s still a great need to get vaccinated.

The district plans to have a follow-up clinic for their teachers to receive the second dose. Others in the community are encouraged to go on the state’s vaccine portal to register for the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
