An incorrect report of a burglary in Nicoma Park led to a roughly 20-mile car chase that ended with a crash and manhunt in Pottawatomie County.

Oklahoma County dispatch received a 911 call Monday night from a woman who said a home on E. Sewell Ave. in Nicoma Park was broken into.

“There are people over there tearing that house apart and it is not the cops,” the caller told dispatchers.

The owner of the home said there was no break-in. The owner, who requested to not be identified, shared security footage with News 9 overlooking the front of the home.

A Nicoma Park police officer drove up to the home around 9 p.m., minutes after Braxton Parham parked outside in a truck.

Parham, who the owner identified in the footage and said was welcome at the home, was the only person outside. After seeing the officer drive up to the house, the footage shows Parham return to the truck and drive away.

“The call was confusing even to my officer. My officer, when she arrived, she had to take everything on face value,” said Lt. Mike Weiss of the Nicoma Park Police Department. “Not having any other information, she had to assume that was the suspect.”

The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office said NPPD requested assistance to pursue the truck as it fled the officer. After a roughly 20-mile pursuit, a deputy purposefully crashed into the truck to stop the chase.

“At one point the deputy tells me that the gentleman actually turned towards him and flipped him off. And the deputy was able to get a good look at him because of that,” said Aaron Brilbeck, OSCO public information officer.

The truck crashed off of I-40 in Pottawatomie County, south of McLoud. Brilbeck said Parham ran from deputies, prompting a manhunt. An assisting Pottawatomie County deputy found Parham near the site of the crash after midnight.

Deputies found roughly 2.7 oz of black tar heroin on Parham’s person, Brilbeck said.

Parham was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on complaints of possessing a stolen vehicle, aggravated eluding of an officer, aggravated assault upon an officer and drug possession.
