A high school student is running for Alva's City Council, and the first election he will be able to vote in is the one he is running in.

"I am 18. I am pretty young to be on the city council. But I am not your average high school senior. I am a certified auctioneer, I am a drone pilot, I have close to a year of college-ready, and I have watched every single city council meeting on YouTube," said Joe Parsons, an Alva City Council Candidate.

For this 18-year-old, he says he is meant to stay busy.

Parsons is not worried about getting ready to go to college, graduate high school and balance a city council position.

He says he is running to fight for a well-funded hospital, water rates, Alva's infrastructure, getting a community pool, and working to managing citizens' tax dollars.

Parsons says he had the opportunity to go to college or run for city council and stay in Alva; his answer came naturally.

"I think adding city council to my list of things would not be a problem because of my love for the city," said Parsons.

The Alva City council election is April 6, and campaigning is underway as Parson's is running against two other candidates.
