Winter Weather Causes OCCHD To Make Changes To COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Layout

The Oklahoma City county health department says it's monitoring road conditions ahead of Tuesday's vaccine clinic. 

The department says vaccinations continue for residents age 65 and older, but changes could be made.

Feb. 8-13, OCCHD is making some changes to its vaccine distribution layout. Making more room to queue people inside the building. At events planned in partnership with Mercy, the hospital has temporarily placed large tents to help people keep protected from the weather. If the lines get too long, the hospital also plans to ask people to stay in their vehicles.

To help Mercy get the patient information it needs, OCCHD put three clinics on a signup link outside the state scheduling portal. The clinics scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday will offer a total of 1,500 doses.

The weather has impacted some vaccination sites. At an OCCHD pod planned in Midwest City on Wednesday, the original dose count was reduced from 1,200 to 700 vaccinations. They did this to help keep any potential line smaller due to the size of the MWC Community Center. Those appointments were loaded into the state scheduling portal.

Mercy and OCCHD plan to open more vaccine appointments later this week, with clinics planned for Thursday and Saturday. The department says, with the changing weather in mind, if the clinics do happen the sign-up links will be posted at VaxOKC.com by Wednesday.
