A suspect is expected to survive after being shot during a domestic dispute in Ponca City.

Phillip Fowler, 37, is accused of stabbing his wife’s son, attacking him with a baseball bat and tying his wife up against her will.

It happened January 30 at the Highlander Apartments located near North Waverly Street and West Highlander Avenue in Ponca City.

The suspect’s wife told police she believed Fowler was using methamphetamines again which makes him paranoid.

Fowler’s wife told police he had gotten upset after believing she was talking to other men.

“The son was trying to calm the male subject down. I guess over the years they have learned that if he’ll calm down or leave the situation that he will sometimes calm himself down,” said Cpt. Kevin L. Jeffries of the Ponca City Police Department.

Police said Fowler attacked his wife's son with a baseball bat, which split his head open. He was also stabbed in the neck and shoulder while in the apartment closet.

Investigators said the suspect also attacked his wife with a bat and tied her up.

“An older brother showed up, an adult son of hers, showed up to her apartment had learned of the assault and knew of their entire history. [He] saw the condition of his brother and took his brother to the hospital,” said Jefferies.

When the adult son returned home to check on his mother, another argument ensued.

“The female has admitted to us that the older son is the one that actually shot the male suspect,” said Jefferies.

Fowler is recovering at OU Health in Oklahoma City.

Police want anyone in a similar situation to know help is available.

“It always boils down to environment of how they live, how am I going to pay my bills,” said Jefferies. “There are resources out there to help people in domestic situations.”

Police are recommending charges of aggravated assault, sodomy and kidnapping.

A judge has set Fowler's bond at one million dollars, after he is released from the hospital.

Court records reveal Fowler has a history of domestic assault.
