Colby Thelen is an anchor/reporter for News 9. He anchors the 4 a.m. broadcast and reports for 5 and 6. He joined the team in August 2020 after spending two years as a morning reporter for FOX59 and CBS4 News in Indianapolis, IN. During his time there, he worked as a general assignment reporter covering variety of issues from crime, to weather, to Colts football. He also reported on the Indy 500 from pit lane.

Prior to Indianapolis, Colby worked in Charleston, SC where he covered major natural disasters including Hurricanes Matthew and Irma, as well as high-profile criminal cases including the trials of the Mother Emanuel Church shooter and police officer Michael Slager. A passionate storyteller, Colby received an award from the Radio, Television and Digital News Association of the Carolinas in 2017 for his series on the Lowcountry's Blue Collar workers.

After graduating from Clemson University with a double major in Communications and Political Science, Colby took a position as a broadcast associate for CBS This Morning in New York, where he worked closely with the show's anchors and contributed to the daily production of the broadcast.

A native of Hendersonville, NC, Colby is a true southerner at heart. He loves college football (go Tigers!), and good southern cuisine. In his free time, Colby enjoys playing guitar and can often be found at karaoke belting out Marvin Gaye or Chris Stapleton. He lives in Mesta Park with his wife, Weesie, son Reece, and puppy Swayze.
