Love's Travel Stops employees are eligible for an additional payment if they voluntarily receive a COVID-19 vaccination.

The company announced the incentive on Thursday and will come in the form of an additional $75 in pay. Love's Travel Stops has nearly 30,000 employees and has more than 530 locations in 41 states.

Love's is the first nationwide travel stop network to offer employees an incentive to receive the vaccine.

"We’re very excited to be able to offer up an incentive to all of our employees across the nation. We have almost 30,000 employees spread across the nation. So, it’s a $75 incentive payment for all of them to get a COVID-19 shot," said Shane Wharton, Love's Travel Stops president.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the safety of their employees has become more of a priority.

"During this pandemic, we’ve followed the CDC guidelines and have done a lot of things to keep our employees safe, but we feel the vaccine will obviously continue to keep them safe, and in turn, our costumers," said Wharton.

Love's is the first company of this type to offer this type of incentive, but Wharton said his focus is not taking the lead, it is about people.

"We’ll be the first national truck stop company and travel store around the country to offer this incentive. Maybe some others will follow, I don’t know. We’ve seen some other businesses offer similar incentives, but we thought it was the right thing to do and for our employees," he said.

Love's said this is only an incentive and they respect the choices of all their employees.

Truck stops are recognized as essential businesses by the federal government in the fight against COVID-19.
