Wednesday marks 20 years since a tragic plane crash took the lives of 10 members of the Oklahoma State family.

The night of the crash Oklahoma State vowed to always "Remember the Ten" and the university has kept that promise and not just on this day, but year-round.

On January 27, 2001, ten members of the Oklahoma State basketball team and staff were returning to Oklahoma from Colorado when the plane crashed into a field during a snowstorm, killing everyone on board.

The group referred to as "The Ten" are OSU basketball players Nate Fleming, and Daniel Lawson, student assistant Jared Weiberg, athletic trainer Brian Luinstra, director of basketball operations Pat Noyes, OSU athletic media relations coordinator Will Hancock, broadcast engineer Kendall Durfey, News 9 Sports Director Bill Teegins, and pilots Bjorn Fahlstrom and Denver Mills.

A “Remember The Ten” memorial now stands in the southwest lobby of Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater.

The university said that will be open most of the week for those who would like to pay their respects or leave a memento.

“Due to COVID-19 protocols for visiting teams in GIA, access to the Memorial Lobby will be restricted on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. while the Texas women's basketball team practices prior to their game against the Cowgirls. At 4:30 p.m. the lobby will close again to the general public,’ the university said in a news release.

There will be a moment of remembrance before the women’s game Wednesday night and OSU's library bell will ring 10 times at 6:37 p.m., the time of the crash 20 years ago.

OSU said Saturday's Cowboy basketball game against Arkansas will serve as this year's Remember The Ten game.

The Cowboy family will honor those lost in the tragedy, recognize family members and announce scholarship recipients, but the Memorial Lobby will be closed to visitors that day.

The Remember the Ten Run also honors the victims, but that happens a little later in the year and is set for August 28th.
