The first time TU faced Houston this season, forward Brandon Rachal sealed a tight victory, knocking down two free throws with a tenth of a second left. In the rematch, it was not the same story.

Tulsa is the only team to beat the Houston Cougars this season, but Wednesday night, that team did not appear on the court, falling 86-59 to the Cougars.

The Houston Cougars dominated the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, starting with a 14-0 run just a few minutes into the game.

Beat on the glass both offensively and defensively, Houston had over double the number of rebounds that Tulsa had, 52 to just 24 for the Hurricane.

Tulsa turnovers, especially early, told the story as Tulsa never once had the lead. Tulsa had 18 turnovers for the game, but those early gifts to the Cougars cemented a hole that proved impossible to climb out of.

Houston held the Hurricane to 37.3% from the field while the Cougars shot just over 42%.

A game that would have been key to the Golden Hurricane’s hunt to remain near the top of the conference and potentially for an NCAA spot, Tulsa now falls to 5-3 in the American.
