The Oklahoma County sheriff's office will hold a news conference about an officer-involved shooting in Spencer on New Year's Eve, Wednesday morning.
The news conference starts at 11 a.m. at the Sheriff's office.
This will be new Sheriff Tommie Johnson's first news conference since he was sworn in.
The shooting they're talking about happened New Year's Eve, off Northeast 52nd Street in Spencer.
Spencer and Jones police officers responded to a domestic disturbance. The first officer tackled a man in the front yard when he reached for his waistband, but after a language barrier was cleared up, police realized the man was trying to tell them someone else had a gun.
Investigators said the officers were ambushed by gunfire on the second floor of the home. They were able to arrest the shooter, Jose Lazaro-Valdez. An innocent bystander in the same room was also unharmed.
Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater said the officers will not face charges.
"Officer Cagle and Officer Pettus should be commended for their exemplary response to their attempted murder by Jose Lazaro-Valdez," he said. "He was intent on killing your officers and they employed defensive tactics that allowed them to successfully resist the attempt on their lives."
