The day before President-elect Joe Biden is set to be inaugurated, President Donald Trump issued a message of farewell to the nation.
"This week we inaugurate a new administration and pray for its success in keeping America safe and prosperous," President Trump said, on his recorded video on the White House YouTube page.
President Trump thanked his family, the family of Vice President Mike Pence and his cabinet and staff members at the White House, as well as the U.S. Secret Service. He also issued a statement of gratitude to the American people, for the chance to serve in office.
"Thank you for this extraordinary privilege, and that's what it has been, a great privilege and a great honor. We must never forget that while Americans will always have our disagreements, we are nation of incredible, decent, faithful and peace-loving citizens who all want our country to thrive and flourish, to be very successful and good," President Trump said.
President Trump issued a call for unity, noting and condemning the violence that occurred from the siege on the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
"All Americans were horrified by the assault on our Capitol. Political violence is an attack on everything we cherish as Americans, it can never be tolerated. Now, more than ever we must unify around our shared values," President Trump said.
President Trump has said he will not attend the inauguration of the 46th president on January 20.
