Oklahoma City police said a woman had her wedding ring stolen and pawned by a person she hired to be a caretaker.
Police said sadly this is a situation they see time and time again where someone takes advantage of people who are vulnerable.
“Just like any line of work there’s people that get in the line of work for the wrong reasons and this was a case of that,” said MSgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
Police arrested 26-year-old Vinia Monique Foster-Duncan after she allegedly stole and pawned off a wedding ring.
“As time went on the homeowner, the owner of the ring became more and more suspicious of the caretaker because no one else had been around the ring,” said Knight.
The police report stated the victim confronted Foster-Duncan twice. The first time her response was surprised saying, “that was your wedding ring?” The second time documents read she got upset and quit.
“Turns out investigators were able to trace the ring to a pawn shop where the caretaker had indeed stolen the ring and pawned it,” said Knight.
Police said the victim’s ring is worth around $10,000 but it was pawned for $250.
Foster-Duncan is in the Oklahoma County Detention Center. Police said she faces a possible charge of grand larceny, which is a felony.
