Oklahoma City police released new information on Monday related to a triple shooting over the weekend that turned deadly. Police accused Patrick Matthews, 24, of shooting Johnathan Gonzalez-Leal, 34, and killing 24-year-old Alfredo Vera.

Matthews also turned the gun on himself after shooting the two men. Police are still piecing together the motive behind the shootings.

“Just goes to show you can’t tell what’s going on in someone else’s house,” said Wayne Stupka, neighbor.

Crime tape and police was the last thing Stupka expected to see on his street when he came home from work Saturday night. Police were called to the neighborhood near Britton Road and Mustang Road after a woman called 911 to report a shooting.

A bloody car and blood trails marked the sidewalk leading up to the disturbing scene officers found inside the home.

“Sounded like it was a very dramatic and honestly terrifying scene,” said Stupka.

Investigators learned for some reason Matthews shot Gonzalez-Leal, who lived in the home. Two other people were inside the home and witnessed the first shooting.

“The second victim who has been identified as Alfredo Vera tried to render aid to that first shooting victim,” said Sgt. Megan Morgan with the Oklahoma City Police Department. “That’s when the suspect turned on him and shot him, ultimately killed him.”

Reports stated Vera was shot multiple times and died at the scene. Vera’s girlfriend was able to get out of the home and called for help.

When officers arrived at the home Matthews came out the front door and shot himself. He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

“Officers also located Jonathan who was the first shooting victim inside the home,” said Morgan. “He was transported in critical but stable condition.”

Matthews is still in the hospital but will be booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center when he is released.
