On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the nation takes a pause, with many Americans using the holiday as a day of service. A kindergartener in Indianapolis, Indiana, is already well ahead in making a difference. Five-year-old Amor Coleman is a little girl with big ideas. In her kindergarten classroom, she noticed the books rarely include characters that look like her. So, she decided to fix that and started collecting books for Black History Month for friends at school.

The 42nd annual Martin Luther King Jr. parade in Tulsa will happen Monday morning. Some streets in downtown Tulsa will be temporarily closed for the event. Organizers said there will be no public attendance for the parade because of the COVID-19 pandemic and people are encouraged to watch it online. There will still be floats, but walkers, bands and precision drill teams will not be apart of the parade because of the pandemic.

Tulsa Church Offers Help To Community Members Struggling With Utility Bills

A Tulsa church is helping some community members who are struggling to pay their utility bills. The program leaders say right now many families have to decide between buying food or paying a utility bill and that is something they want to cut down. St. Andrew Baptist Church and Woodlake Church have partnered together to bring this assistance to the community. Oklahoma National Guardsmen Deploy To Washington D.C. Ahead Of Presidential Inauguration

Hundreds of Oklahoma National Guard Members are in Washington D.C. to help with President-elect Joe Biden’s Inauguration security procedures. They left the Will Rogers Air Base early Sunday morning. Before the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, only 10 Oklahoma National Guardsmen were expected to go to Washington, but due to the attack, now 400 men and women from Oklahoma have been called to report for duty in our nation’s capitol.
