A Tulsa man is bringing holiday cheer to people who live in an assisted living facility through a large-scale gingerbread house.

Tuesday, residents of Montereau’s Assisted Living facility watched their director of food and beverage build a four-foot-tall gingerbread house.

“I’ll put little log stacks out in front of the house," said Chad Horvath.

Horvath is a bit of an expert when it comes to gingerbread houses.

“I just love doing this stuff. It brings back your childhood and it’s just a lot of fun," said Horvath. “From those years and years of experience doing it, it kind of helps you narrow down what works for these houses.”

He said he used 100 pounds of powdered sugar and, by the time he finishes the gingerbread house, it'll weigh several hundreds of pounds.

“Poundage wise this thing will probably be five to seven hundred pounds by the time it’s all done and the product is all on there. I mean I have probably a hundred pounds just in powder sugar that will go into the royal icing," said Horvath.

While he loves the challenge of building something this big, the real reason he does it is because it brings some Christmas cheer to their residents.

“I think it’s so important right now because of the pandemic and everything this just kind of gives some sense of normalcy back into their life to see just fun Christmas decorations and things like this going on still," said Horvath.
