The first Tuesday after Thanksgiving is internationally recognized as the day of giving back, also known as Giving Tuesday.

After a weekend full of holiday shopping and Black Friday deals, there is a day set aside as a day of giving back and contributing to charity.

What started as a small movement in New York City in 2012, the day has now grown to a multi-million dollar resource for charities worldwide. In 2019 alone, $511 million was raised specifically for the Giving Tuesday organization, which does not include any of the smaller organizations that received donations or charities across the world.

For those who want to pitch in this holiday season, some of the locations participating are:

-Oklahoma Goodwill locations

-Salvation Army

-American Red Cross

-Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma

-Tulsa CASA

-Community Service Council

-Komen Oklahoma

For those who are not able to donate money or items, time and effort can also go a long way for people and charities in need. A simple act of kindness is also on the list of possibilities!

To donate to the Giving Tuesday organization itself or find other ways to participate locally, visit the Giving Tuesday website.
