A five-year veteran with the Moore Police Department is recovering after he was dragged by a car while trying to make an arrest.

Sgt. Bryce White responded to the 1400 block of N. Norman on Wednesday night.

“Man, let me see your hands real quick,” White said on video captured by his body camera.

When Sgt. White approached the vehicle, he noticed it was Dustin Schumann, a convicted felon.

“What you might not see in the video is that when he walked up, he heard a loud clank,” Moore Police Department Lt. Kyle Hill said.

The noise had White on high alert. He asked Schumann if he had been using drugs that night. Schumann admitted that he had.

White asked Schumann to open the door to the vehicle. When he finally did, White found a pistol.

He asked Schumann to get out of the car, but Schumann did not comply. This is when Schumann decided to take off, dragging White along with him.

Schumann got away, but detectives filed an arrest warrant for him. He was spotted by detectives on Thursday morning and a chase ensued. Schumann crashing out and was taken to a local hospital.

When Schumann is released, he will be booked into jail on numerous charges including assault and battery on an officer.
