Last month’s historic ice storm did a number to trees and powerlines all across the state of Oklahoma.
The storm left behind many piles of downed tree limbs waiting to be picked up. Some residents were left without power for over 11 days.
With the ice storm now behind us, a metro family has created a Christmas display with downed tree limbs from their yard.
The pile of limbs outside the Prough family home has been turned into a makeshift Christmas tree in northwest Oklahoma City.
The display is complete with lights, ornaments, a star hanging on a broom handle, even candy canes for area children to pick up at their leisure.
A sign sits on the pile which says, “Create A Nice Storm, Help Each Other.”
The Prough family said it’s all about turning a negative experience, into a positive one.
“It’s taking a negative, finding just that little bit of something that you can do that makes you happy, makes your neighbors happy, puts a smile on someone’s face,” said Jon Prough. “There is a lot going on and something this simple just as you drive down the street and you see lights on a pile of limbs, puts a smile on your face.”
The Prough Family said they’ll take everything down from the limbs before the city cleanup crew arrives.
The idea was something the entire family came up with.
