Congresswoman Kendra Horn spent election eve rallying supporters, making door-to-door appeals, and cleaning up ice storm debris from an Oklahoma City polling place.
Oklahoma’s fifth congressional district race between Horn and Republican challenger State Sen. Stephanie Bice is being watched as one of the closest congressional races in the country.
Horn surprised many in 2018, beating two term Republican Congressman Steve Russell.
“This year is a little bit different,” Horn said. “There’s a lot of attention, there’s a bigger spotlight, but our mission and the work that we’re doing stay the same. It’s still about how we take care of Oklahomans.”
Democratic political action committees have spent more than $2.5 million on the race. Republican committees have spent more than $3.5 million.
Horn said attacks on her oil and gas record have been one of the biggest misconceptions she’s worked to overcome.
“The votes they’re attacking me on, no Oklahoma company has offshore drilling interest, that’s one of them. No Oklahoma company is drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Preserve, that’s the other that they’re talking about,” Horn said.
Monday afternoon, Horn’s campaign staffers joined the congresswoman at Wildewood Baptist Church in northeast Oklahoma City to remove downed trees around the polling place.
Horn said she believes her campaign has done what it takes to come out on top election night.
“I believe Oklahomans deserve a representative that's going to show up for them, that's going to fight hard, that's going to stand up for Oklahomans, and just going to shake things up in Washington. I've done all of those things,” Horn said.
