The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association has announced changes to the high school playoffs this year. A new “play-in” round will be added, giving all teams the chance to qualify.

The decision comes after the association said 25-28 games have been canceled each week. While some of these games are rescheduled, others do not get played.

Schools have the chance to qualify for playoff brackets. If they are unable to play the game they are assigned in the bracket, the team will automatically be eliminated.

This will cause some playoff schedules to be changed. For class 5A, 4A, 3A and C, the state championship game will now be played a week later on December 11-12.

Class 2A, A and B would be pushed back to the weekend of December 18-19. Class 6A, which includes Owasso, Jenks, Bixby and Broken Arrow, would still play the championship game the weekend of December 4, but would have the bye week eliminated.

Teams choosing to opt-out of the bracket must notify their district chairman by November 7.
