Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers are asking for help to get more information about the woman accused of causing a wrong-way crash on Interstate 40 that killed four people, including a child.

Investigators believe Ashley Ricks, 33, may have been impaired when she drove the wrong way on I-40 just west of El Reno early Saturday morning.

Troopers said Ricks hit the victims’ car head-on, sending that it into the center median. The crash killed the driver and three passengers.

Trooper Matthew Rackley said when he got to the scene, he knew there wouldn’t be survivors in the car.

“The car did burst into flames. The car was crushed pretty good. The other vehicle was flipped over on its top,” said Rackley. “It was hard to take in. To see all that and hope and pray that no one suffered.”

One of the passengers, an unnamed child, was pronounced dead at a hospital in El Reno.

Ricks was rushed to OU Medical Center with critical injuries, troopers said. Investigators were unable to speak with her.

Troopers ask if you know where Ricks was before the crash, call them at 405-425-2323.
