OKCPS Makes Changes To Extra Curricular Activities, Return To School Plan

Sports and other activities are set to resume Monday for Oklahoma City Public School students, after the COVID-19 Alert Level for Oklahoma County went down.

OKCPS said it will no longer make instructional changes between Orange Alert Level 1 and 2. Instead, sports, activities, and in-person classes will only be impacted if Oklahoma County jumps to the Red Alert level.

OKC schools suspended events last week after Oklahoma County moved into the Orange Level 2 on the state’s COVID-19 Alert Map.

Superintendent Sean McDaniel said they needed to wait until the infection rate went back down.

District leaders said the updated plan is to bring staff back in-person fulltime, starting on October 19. That’s also the same day OKCPS plans to bring Special Education students back to in-person classes four days a week for four hours a day.

Then, on November 9 the district said it will move forward with it’s plan to bring the remaining 1st through 12th grade students back for in-person learning on a staggered A-B schedule.
