On Thursday, Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum will sign in to order the new lower age requirement When it comes to wearing a mask.

Bynum will sign the update, meaning ages ten and up will need to wear a mask in public in Tulsa.

In the city council meeting Wednesday afternoon, it was decided that the new age of those required to wear a mask would be 10 years old and up, as compared to the original 18 years-old.

The city also decided Wednesday, to extend the deadline for the mask mandate through January 31, 2021, or until the expiration of the civil emergency order. Originally the mandate only went to November.

City councilor Phil Lakin said if Covid-19 is going to be slowed, the kids need to wear a mask as well.

“We are teaching them it’s about putting others first their wearing of the mask, they get that they understand it, like me they don’t like wearing a mask, but it’s a duty and responsibility in trying to care for others in the community,” said Lakin.

There are of course exemptions to the new mask mandate that include anyone doing physical exercise, any child participating in a strenuous athletic event and when eating or drinking.
