Rincon Mexican Grill and Cantina owner Roberto Tejeda said he bought the restaurant in hopes of being able to pass it down to his children.

However, the impact of COVID-19 might be changing Tejeda’s plan.

The restaurant averaged approximately $2,000 per day in business before the start of the pandemic. Tejeda said it’s hard to see his restaurant not come close to that number anymore.

“I don’t want to cry, but it’s like $400,” Tejeda said.

Tejeda and his family took over the restaurant in Tulsa in late 2019. Tejeda said he closed it in March for a week.

Since the restaurant reopened, customers have been declining.

“My family is really invested in this business and it’s scary to think we could lose it.” Tejeda said.

Tejeda said he’s trying to remain optimistic with rent going for $4,000 each month.

Rincon Mexican Grill and Cantina is open Tuesday through Sunday.
