Chesapeake Energy is laying off 200 employees, primarily in Oklahoma City, according to a company letter obtained by News 9.
The company said it is reducing its workforce by approximately 15% as a result of “challenging times.”
All employees received an email Thursday saying impacted field employees have been notified. The company has plans to notify the remaining employees by phone on Friday.
A company spokesperson sent the following statement saying:
“We continue to prudently manage our business and staffing levels to adapt to challenging market conditions.”
The affected employees are eligible to receive a severance package.
