Unfortunately, there is no state fair this year, but News 9 is taking this opportunity to take you behind the scenes of the Oklahoma fall staple. That includes all those volunteers.
The Oklahoma State Fair is kept running smoothly every year thanks in a large part to 100 volunteers.
“After we retired we looked for anything that looked interesting, that looked fun,” said Tommie Rankin. “We always enjoyed the fair.”
Tommie and her husband Gary Rankin have been volunteering at the fair for over a decade.
“At least 10 or 15 years,” said Gary Rankin.
So long, it's hard to remember where all they've helped out, but they have since found their calling in vendor hospitality.
“We tell people where to go,” Tommie Rankin joked.
They take care of the vendors in the new Bennett Event Center.
They said it was disappointing to learn there would be no fair this year, but plan on returning next year.
“We plan on it, if we can get rid of this darn virus,” said Tommie Rankin.
