There were scary moments for a McClain County family this weekend after a driver crashed into a home with a mother and three children inside.
It happened late Saturday night at a duplex near Blanchard High School.
Boards now cover what used to be a garage door and brick wall of the home.
The impact of the crash was so significant, the building has now been deemed unsafe to live in.
Neighbors said it sounded like a bomb went off.
“I opened my garage door, from the door to the house and it was just dust and rubble," said Siarrah Cooper, whose house was hit by the car. “I called out, asked if the person was OK, asked who it was, they identified themselves, said they were fine.”
Gathering her three children, Cooper said she got out of the house immediately due to fears of it collapsing.
Cooper said the driver hit a parked vehicle before crashing into the home. According to Cooper, the axle on the vehicle cracked.
“This happened probably 20 to 30 seconds after I had just got off the staircase which is right by the front door,” said Cooper. “Had the driver been even inches more to the left and had it been just moments sooner, it could have been me and or my 3-year-old that got hit.”
The impact of the crash sent Siarrah's vehicle 6 to 8 feet into the neighbor’s garage next door.
Neighbors have since brought her children new bikes and scooters that were damaged.
“The fire department was able to somewhat stabilize so we could at least get all of my things moved out and get the vehicles out,” said Cooper. “They just don't know how long it is going to take to repair.”
Property management has since moved the Cooper family into a new duplex nearby.
Cooper believes the driver may have been under the influence. The family hopes that anyone who may drive under the influence, thinks twice.
“Don't do it. even if you think you are cognitive and coherent, your reflexes are slowed, your perception of speed and time, everything is altered and it’s not worth it,” said Cooper.
Copper said the driver was taken to the hospital.
A GoFundMe account has been started to help this family get back their feet.
Blanchard police said Tuesday detectives are investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash, or if the crash was a result of a medical episode.
