Norman Public Schools announced Wednesday the intracity football matchup between Norman High School and Norman North High School has been canceled due to COVID-19.

According to NPS, the district made the decision to cancel the game after "individuals associated with the Norman High football program" have contracted and tested positive for COVID-19. The individuals involved either have COVID-19 or came in close contact with a positive case.

The district did not disclose how many Norman High School individuals were involved in order to protect their identities.

NPS said those who came in contact with the positive case were notified and are in quarantine protocols.

Norman High-Norman North, also known as the "Crosstown Clash," was scheduled to kickoff on Thursday, Sept. 3.

“The safety of our students and staff is a top priority,” NPS Superintendent Dr. Nick Migliorino said in a statement. “We also know that following stringent health protocols, consulting with medical experts and taking swift action to mitigate risks associated with COVID-19 is critical to ensuring we can continue to safely open our schools for in-person instruction.”

Those who purchased tickets to the game will be refunded.
