Oklahoma City is launching a new campaign urging residents to wear their mask while inside city limits.
The new citywide campaign is going to include a lot of advertising ranging from billboard ads, commercials. The Thunder is getting involved as well. There is also going to be a big social media push.
All of it is going to have the same message: to follow the public health guidelines when it comes to wearing mask inside city limits, which already includes wearing them at indoor public places.
The city of OKC, chamber, and the city-county health department are hoping this campaign will help businesses stay open during this pandemic.
Roy Williams, president of the Greater OKC Chamber of Commerce says, "Another round of closures would be devastating to small business, impact more jobs and significantly harm the economy. This affirms our commitment to keeping our residents safe and healthy so our city can remain open."
The average number of new COVID-19 cases in the city have fallen since the mask mandate took place. Daily infections in mid-July were around 216, now mid-August they're around 136.
