Edmond police are investigating the death of a 3-year-old girl who was left in a hot car.

Police said the child died on Monday but have released very little information about the details surrounding the child’s death.

Police were called on Monday to the family’s home near West Edmond Road and Fretz Avenue.

Brittany Chavez posted a video on Facebook as she rushed home. She had just learned that her youngest child was left in a hot car.

“If you pray please pray for my baby,” said Chavez. “If you do rituals, please hold one for my baby.”

Chavez had no idea what she was going home to.

“I’m going home and I don’t know if she’s alive,” said Chavez. “So please pray for her.”

Police said Chavez's husband Joseph made an emotional 911 call from their home.

“(He) said his 3-year-old daughter had been in the car,” said Emily Ward, Edmond Police Department. “Left in the car anywhere from four to six hours.”

When officers arrived to the family’s home they started life saving measures. Paramedics took the little girl to OU Children's Hospital, but she could not be saved.

Back at the family's home, investigators took photos of the SUV the child was left in and spoke to possible witnesses.

"Right now, they’re interviewing the family,” said Ward. “Talking to anybody who might have seen what happened. Trying to put together a picture of the events as they happened.”

The couple's friends have started a GoFundMe to help the family pay for bills and funeral expenses. The Chavezs have four other young children and are now grieving the heartbreaking loss of their youngest.

The Chavezs have told friends that in addition needing financial support during this time, they need plenty of tissues and continued prayers.
